Precursors of innovation in mushroom picking lorries

Since GrowTime’s founding, we have always been guided by one goal: to provide our customers with solutions to meet their needs and also constantly striving to increase the profitability of mushroom farms. Our flagship products such as mushroom picking lorries – Newton and Pascal – are perfect examples of this philosophy. Through passion, years of experience, the creativity of our team and constant dialogue with customers, we have been able to create products that combine functionality, safety, ergonomics and efficiency what finally making them very effective.

Let’s get to know each other… – briefly about our lorries

The Pascal picking lorry is an innovative, self-propelled mushroom picking equipment that stands out for its exceptional functionality and advanced technology. Equipped with a movable platform with hydraulic cylinders, it allows convenient picking from any shelf. Working comfort is ensured by an adjustable soft seat and a weighing system operated from the remote control. High-capacity batteries guarantee up to 35 hours of uninterrupted operation, and a built-in LED lamp makes harvesting easy at any time. Pascal offers maximum safety with dual stability sensor circuits, a non-slip platform and sturdy railings.

The Newton lorry is an ergonomic hanging picking lorry designed for efficient mushroom picking, even from the lowest shelf. The lorry is equipped with an electric, durable and easy detachable winch made from stainless steel and aluminum. Adjustable shelves and capacious box storage increase productivity. High-performance batteries provide up to 4 days of operation, and the extremely rigid construction and non-slip platform guarantee safety and durability. The Newton lorry is also easy to maintain hygienically, making it an ideal tool for mushroom farms.

Both lorries combine advanced technology with attention to ergonomics and safety, making mushroom harvasting efficient, comfortable and economical.

About how the Newton and Pascal lorries have evolved over the years

Gravitational platform lock: simplicity and safety

One of the first innovative solutions we introduced in 2015-2016 was a gravitational platform lock. This seemingly simple but highly effective improvement eliminates the possibility of the platform accidentally disengaging from the lorry frame, which was previously one of the biggest hazards in daily operation. In addition, we dispensed with loose components such as pins or bolts that could get lost or damaged. The solution has significantly improved safety and reduced maintenance time, as the solution requires no maintenance.

Inward opening wicket (2016): a new security standard

During the same period, we introduced another solution – an inward-opening wicket. This solution increased the safety of users, as it is not physically possible to picking mushrooms with the wicket open.

Curved railing profiles (2016): aesthetics, durability and hygiene

Another breakthrough was the replacement of cut and welded railing profiles with bent tubes. Why is this solution so important? First of all, bending avoids sharp edges and the so-called notch effect, which can lead to cracks. Moreover, fewer welds mean a higher level of hygiene, which is crucial in a food production environment. In addition, smooth transitions and rounded edges improve ergonomics, increasing user comfort.

Easy detachment of drives: versatility and reliability (2015/2016)

Among the innovations most appreciated by our customers are the disconnectable drives we introduced in 2015/2016. This solution not only guarantees high reliability, but also makes it possible to easily dissconnect and connect drives between different lorries – different batches over many years and after many years of operation. Each drive has a unique number and a universal interface, allowing them to be mixed at will, regardless of batch or delivery date.

In addition, the construction of the drives is designed in such a way that when they are disassembled, they do not require separate removal of components such as e.g. limit switches. All key components are installed on the drive, which simplifies the disassembly process and reduces the risk of damage and time of operation. Maintenance time has been reduced almost to zero by using special bearings that require no maintenance. Our drives are also distinguished by their durability, thanks to the use of materials that are resistant to impacts or drops, and rust which is crucial in intensive working environments.

Advanced technologies in drives (2015/2016)

Our drives do not require regular maintenance, which translates into savings in time and operating costs. In addition, a constant speed control system (even during non-ideally straight top guides or varying amounts of kg on the platform) ensures stable operation regardless of load, significantly improving productivity and harvesting efficiency. Thanks to advanced technologies, our lorries consume a minimum amount of electricity while offering high torque at low speeds – an ideal solution for the specifics of work in mushroom farms, both those newly built and those established many years ago.

Seat adjustment and ergonomics of Pascal model (2015)

On the Pascal model, we took care of user comfort by introducing seat height and forward – backward adjustment and a soft, quilted finish. These seemingly small changes have a huge impact on ergonomics and productivity – operators get less tired, allowing for longer and more efficient harvests.

Mobile scale charging function (2015)

Another practical solution is that the portable scale can be connected to the lorry controller, allowing it to be recharged during operation. As a result, users do not have to interrupt harvesting to change the batteries in the scale, which significantly increases the continuity and efficiency of work.

Speed control by the foreman (2015/2016)

The function of setting the minimum, maximum or fixed speed by the foreman is another new feature that debuted on our 2015-2016 trucks. With the simple iButton system, harvest managers can fully control the pace of work, which affects the quality of the harvest and the yield, increasing it by up to 2.5 kg/m² and more.

System of stopping the lorry on the obstacle (2017)

Since 2017, our lorries have been equipped with an advanced bumper system that automatically stops the machine if an obstacle is detected. Such a solution ensures a high level of safety, especially important in environments where people and machines work in close proximity.

Shelf lighting and green energy (2016)

To improve visibility during harvesting, we have introduced universal tripods that allow the lamps to be placed in a convenient position. At the same time, we have taken care of the ecological aspect of our operations – the system of electricity recovery during drive braking, introduced in 2016, allows batteries to be charged during operation, further reducing energy consumption.

Traffic light and service panel (2016/2017)

The Pascal model has been enhanced with a traffic light that indicates the movement of the lorry, allowing for better work organization and increased productivity. In addition, in 2016-2017, we introduced a service desk accessible from zero level, making it easier to maintain and wash the lorries.
